The visual style of the game can be described as “horror anime”. The whole game will be 3D modeled. Characters will be 3D modeled in the anime style and dressed in traditional Japanese clothing.

A large part of the aesthetic will be achieved using a shader that is very line heavy- I will strongly consider going with a cross-hatching shader (the top left image is from an Unreal Engine cross-hatching shader tutorial). I think black lines will go a long way in turning the anime style more gritty and somber.

To further the grim “creepy” aesthetic of the game, each scene will have a desaturated colour palette with a limited range of colours. Interactable items will be brighter/ more saturated on average.

Certain scenes, like death scenes, will have a bright, extremely saturated red colour palette to accentuate the emotions of the scene.
