I want whatever music is present in the game to be in a traditional Japanese style to match the Heian-era setting of the game. However, unlike the Sound Game, I want the background music to be far more… muted? Unnoticeable? I feel like the music in that game really overpowered all the other sounds, which is not what I want. I think what I’ll want for this game is more so “ambience” with maybe the occasional instrument being played. I want the player paying attention to their surroundings and constantly being on edge. That won’t be possible if the music is overpowering everything.
I plan to have a bunch of sound effects for everything that is going on in the world. It will help give the player an immersive experience, but also have the player carefully paying attention to every sound to try and distinguish whether or not its dangerous.
For voice acting, I will have text to voice AI play the Yokai, and human voice actors play the human characters.
I’m strongly considering adding a filter to all the voices to both make the atmosphere a bit “spookier” but also to help disguise the difference between the human and AI voices. But I feel like that might be cheating, so I’m not too sure about that.
